It’s crappie time here in N. Alabama. I caught a few keepers today on a glacier colored Bobby Garland jig on a 1/16th ounce head under a small cork set to about 5 feet deep. What’s your preferred method of catching crappie?

With air temp highs today of 35F, it's a good day to dream of crappie fishing. Any crappie fishing this time of year is going to mean that I am sitting on the ice instead of the kayak though.

I do plan on tying some crappie jigs up soon on the fly tying vice. My search plan will be to drill holes, install locator and if I see fish, fish for a short time (15 mins max). If no bites, MOVE BABY MOVE. It's common for some ice fisherman go walk out, stake out their location and camp there for hours and if no bites stay in the same place or go home. I really like the idea of hunting for the fish. I can't catch every fish that I see on the locator, so I am fine with the philosophy that I am searching for the aggressive fish.

Tell us about your methods of choice.
