One of the best largemouth bass fisheries in Eastern Nebraska, Memphis Lake State Recreation Area offers a great opportunity to kayak anglers. A no-wake lake with lots of structure along the edges, an island in the middle of the south side, jetties, and a boat ramp make for a great day of fishing. As with many bodies of water, this lake is at its best in late April through early June. However, the summer months can be tougher here then at comparable locations in the area. A kayak angler's dream exists on the North side of the lake. Approximately 10 acres are separated from the main lake by a road with a low bridge. Too low for even a kayak to cross under. However, it's easy to launch a kayak into that area if you are willing to fight a little mud. The East side of this area contains cattails and other grasses on a sandy bottom. It's a great spot to fish, and unless another kayaker or canoeist shows up, you are alone in a relatively unfished area!.
