Fishing the output of the hydro's can be very productive for Stripers, Hybrids, and Sauger. The drop off behind the hydro's are great for catfish. The water level can fluctuate greatly here so check the water levels prior to fishing the McAlpine dame. Water levels can be found at NOAA site.

Good spot when the water isn't too high

You have to watch the water levels at this launch. They close the ramp if the water is too high for boats to launch, but even if the ramp is open the water can be pretty tough for kayakers.

When the water is down we have caught a TON of fish from this launch. Fish the hydros across from the ramp for sauger, hybrids, and even smallmouth. You can drift back from the hydros and drop a dead shad down and bounce it along the bottom while drifting and pick up some nice catfish.

Further up the river when the water is really low catfish, hybrids and carp all stack up behind the dam.
