One of the largest preserves in Jacksonville, the Dutton Island Preserve offers kayak fisherman a pristine saltwater marsh packed with redfish, trout, and drum. Dutton Island can also be used as a launch to reach locations just south of the Atlantic Blvd bridge such as Hogpen Creek and Hopkins Creek. If you are traveling that far south from Dutton make sure you account for tides in your paddle plan. Also beware rip currents around the pilings at the bridge.
