Reload review

I'll echo what everyone else has said and add that the reload is one of those rare things that does what it says it will on the box. Stable, speedy and with an excellent layout with attention paid to the smaller details making this a brilliant all round kayak and fishing tool. It just nails it on so many points . What other kayak is an offshore fishing machine then literally 2 minutes later is a family fun boat. I don't hesitate to recommend the viking reload.

Pros & Cons

Pros:
Everything is right where it should be.

Viking Reload - The best alround fishing platform yet

I am a New Zealand kayaker and have paddled everything from fast Kevlar racing shells to long ocean going doubles and a number of sit on top plastics.
This is my second Viking boat as I upgraded from an unruddered profish 400 to make the long offshore trips a bit easier.

This is a fast (for a plastic) boat which is very stable, very comfortable and extraordinarily well laid out.
Most of my paddling is coastal and off shore where it can get pretty rough at times.
The reload copes with big seas and high winds very well. In all the conditions I have faced it has always made good speed and felt 100% safe and stable, even when sliding sideways down a wave with the paddle stowed and a big fish on the line.
The low profile doesn't catch the wind like other boats I have paddled and little touches like the scalloped sides to make a close paddle stroke easier work very well.

The tackle pod is amazing. Plenty of storage, easy to customize and very easy to fit with a sounder and transducer. Being able to have everything including all the electronics and transducer in one box that simply clips in and out makes setup on the beach fast and easy.

The big front hatch is great for storing not only a trolley but spare clothing and food etc in dry bags for those long. This was the one thing I found lacking in the smaller PF400. With a bit of shuffling forward you can safely get into the front hatch on the water.

The three round hatches, one between your legs and two behind you are also great for storing small items, bait etc.

The rear tank well is big, easy to get at and fast draining.

The cockpit layout is fantastic with a low center of balance giving great stability and shaped to give very comfortable leg and back support. If is roomy but also built so you can lock in and brace hard when needed.

With the good high back fishing seat fitted this boat is extremely comfortable. I often do long trips of 15km to 30km+ and spent 9 hours in the saddle on one trip with no discomfort at all. Other boats with the same seat have become quite uncomfortable after 3 or 4 hours so it has a lot to do with the Reloads seating position.

You don't have to have a rudder on this boat but if paddling a lot in rough conditions, especially in quartering seas and over longer distances it is well worth the investment just making everything so much more relaxed and easy.

This is not just a fishing boat, it is great for general paddling, photography and even playing in the surf.
It is by far the best general purpose and fishing kayak I have paddled in 30+ years of kayaking.

Pros & Cons

Pros:
fast, stable, well laid out, quality fittings.
Cons:
bit costly (but worth it)

Viking Profish Reload - Incredible Kayak

My Viking Reload is a week old today, this kayak met my requirements for speed, rough water handling & rigging capability. The Reload is super fast and nimble, the unique rudder is surprisingly responsive & equally responsive to my previous two yaks. The tackle management & chill pod are superbly designed, in fact the entire layout of this model have met all my requirements. The front hatch design & angle is great for access and the seal is like a high-end tupperware bowl.

Can't say enough good things about a kayak designed specifically & meeting every aspect of it's advertised capability for rough seas & wind that's a fishing kayak.

Pros & Cons

Pros:
Super fast, very stable, nimble rudder, well designed for rough seas & high winds
