Sleek. The Hobie Mirage "Adventure" boasts a long, lean undercarriage that’s low on drag and big on speed, allowing you to glide along at speeds that are typically reserved for far more fragile kayaks. But instead of requiring constant doting, the Adventure’s rugged, rotomolded polyethylene hull stands ready to brave any beach. Consider the Adventure’s range and speed—coupled with creature comforts such as ergonomic carrying handles and its comfortable, high-backed seat—and the advantages are obvious. With a 16’ hull design for touring at speed plus MirageDrive power, covering distance with ease is the Adventure’s game.

Open water dream boat

I purchased this boat a few months ago, and I finally feel comfortable writing a review of it. Most of my fishing is conducted in the large open flats of mosquito lagoon, but I have taken it offshore on multiple occasions, and into tidal creeks. I will break it down into the catagories listed in the star rating system.

Speed: First and foremost, this boat is FAST. I would be surprised if there is another "fishing kayak" out there that can hang with it. Teaming this kayak with the turbo fins is an obvious match made in heaven, but I think I might be able to paddle it even faster! (Though for shorter periods of time.) It tracks like a dream with the rudder up or down. 5 stars, cant be beat.

Stability: I would not consider this a stand to fish kayak. I can stand in it, but I would not be comfortable turning around or moving much. That being said, if you prefer to fit and fish, then you should have no issues. I was able to get large offshore species into the kayak without issue. While I didnt give this a 5 star, there is a cheap ($200) amas kit that turn this kayak into an incredibly stable platform. This is an add on, so Ill stick with 4 stars.

Durability: Its a hobie, the hull is sturdy. No issues, 5 stars

Features: Once again, its a hobie. This kayak is pretty bare bones out of the gate, and I think it requires a little modification to get the way you want it. Fortunately being a Hobie, there is an attachment made for everything from rod holders to coffe grinders. Out of the gate I would give it a 3 or 4 star, but the sheer number of upgrades out there (Amas kit, Outriggers, Sail kit, skeg, upgraded fins, upgraded rudder) I think it deserves 5 stars

Value: I think this is honestly one of the most understated kayaks. It is kinda expensive, but worth the money.

Overview: Awesome boat for anyone that likes to go long distances. If youre considering this kayak, just go for it.

Fantastic boat, for Speed and distance

I regularly fish through the surf off of the New Jersey coast. Fishing anywhere from just outside the surf zone to 3 miles offshore. The speed that this boat has is fantastic to cover ground while trying to get to your favorite offshore spot or chasing a school of bass that are chewing on baitfish.

I also use it for inshore clamming in the bay and fluking. All Hobies are ideal for fluking because you can create your own drift speed with the Mirage drive regardless of wind and tide conditions.

I have owned (2) Adventures and I will probably buy the third next year just to upgrade my boat.

Pros & Cons

Pros:
The length to width ratio is excellent.
Cons:
I wish it had just a little more freeboard

Hobie Mirage Adventurer

I love this yak. The one thing I didn't like was the stability. Because of it's length (speed) and beam about 27" it can be a bit tipsy. Add to it a sail and it's risky business. I have sailed this bad boy approximately 10 times before I got dumped in the water. In the summer on a lake, that's fun. In the winter in the ocean, it's scary.

After my last adventure in February when I got dumped in the 50 degree water in the ocean, I decided time to upgrade. I got the inflatable amas installed. They are wonderful. Now I don't leave the beach without them. They keep me dry and stable even while under sail.

Now I have a great platform to fish from. I can sail, I can peddle, I can paddle, I have it all.

Pros & Cons

Pros:
fast, sleek travelling with ease
Cons:
a bit tipsy if your not careful you can get wet
