For anglers who want something compact and inexpensive, the Vanhunks Manatee is not a bad choice, but if you are able to open your wallet a little more and want a kayak that has more space, then the Black Bass from the same company is worth a closer look.

The Black Bass is a single seater sit on top fishing kayak that measures in at 13ft and sports a width of 35 inches. With a weight of 73lbs it is certainly not the lightest kayak on the market, but makes up for it with a maximum weight capacity of 550lbs. The Black Base has a roto-molded construction and is made from UV protected polyethylene materials. Since it is a larger kayak, it features excellent stability, but its tracking is also surprisingly good. This is mostly due to the rudder steering that can be found on the Black Bass. It is mounted off the stern of the kayak and can be controlled via foot pedals. This means that the rudder can be used either as a skeg or to assist with steering when faced with challenging conditions, like waves, currents, wind or water turbulence.

The main reason to opt for a larger kayak is if you need the extra space and the Black Bass definitely doesn't disappoint in this regard. It has a spacious bow tank well, complete with a mesh cover, as well as a rear tank well. The recessed tackle box storage is extremely useful and you can mount your fish finder electronics using the center console of this kayak. In total there are three storage hatches on this kayak, one triangle, one oval and one round. Of course, the Black Bass also has the obligatory rod holders that all fishing kayaks need as well as an accessory track system for you to customize your gear.

Comfort is not an issue with the Black Bass as it comes with a deluxe aluminum seat. This seat can be used in upright and reclining positions, which can be adjusted with ease thanks to the molded-in accessory track recess. Vanhunks also includes a two piece paddle with the Black Bass, which features an aluminum shaft with hand grips along with PVC anti-drip rings. Finally, to make transport the kayak a little easier, it has two carry handles and two side handles.

The Black Bass is more expensive than the Vanhunks Manatee, but makes up for it with much more space and storage options. If you like the brand, but want something that is spacious instead of compact, then this is the kayak for you.
