Payette Angler 98

Length (ft):

Anglers who are looking for a compact kayak that can still cater to their fishing needs may want to take a look at the Payette Angler 98 fishing kayak from Lifetime. It measures in at only 9 ft. 8 in. in length and it is 30 inches wide. It weighs 44 lb, but it is able to handle a maximum weight capacity of about 250 lb. This means that the kayak is about as compact as you can get for angling, but it is definitely not suitable for people for anglers who need a lot of space or who can get claustrophobic.

The Payette Angler 98 features deep hull channels, which provides improved tracking performance and it also sports chine rails for stability, something that is really useful on such a small kayak. The flat bottom design of the kayak also improves the stability. It also has a sharp keep that is designed for better speed and tracking. Durability is not an issue with this kayak as it is constructed of UV-protected high density polyethylene. Since the kayak is UV-protected, it will not fade, crack or split from exposure to the elements.

For such a compact kayak, the Payette Angler 98 has quite a roomy cockpit, although this obviously means that there is less storage space elsewhere on it. The kayak features a seat back, but you’ll probably want to add a comfortable seat cushion if you plan on extended fishing trips. Since the Payette Angler 98 features multiple footrest positions, it is able to accommodate different size paddlers too.

When it comes to storage, the Payette Angler 98 offers an enclosed compartment with lid and shock cord strap for stowing away your essentials. You’ll also find shock cords on the front of the kayak. In addition to one top mount rod holder, the kayak also has two flush mounted fishing pole holders in the rear. Another useful feature is the paddle keeper with shock cord straps. Thanks to easy carry handles, the kayak is as easy to handle out of the water as it is in it.

The Payette Angler 98 is a pretty decent entry-level fishing kayak for people on a tight budget and lack of storage space. Unfortunately, the lack of actual space int his kayak will be a big issue for serious anglers.
