Future Beach
Cayman 124F

Future beach has a couple of budged price 10'4” fishing kayaks, but there are some inevitable compromises that are always made to keep their prices down. The Cayman is another one of their fishing kayaks, but one that actually feature virtually everything you need to do some serious fishing right from the start. It is still a great kayak for newcomers, but the Cayman actually has enough to offer, especially for its price range, that serious fishing enthusiasts should take note too.

Future Beach advertises the Cayman as a world class fishing kayak and while there are far better fishing kayaks available on the market, it definitely delivers a lot considering its price. The Cayman has a dihedral hull design, which improves performance and also enhances its stability out on the water. It is 124 inches wide and 31 inches long, with a height of just over 13 inches. At 47.4 lbs it weighs slightly more than many of the other compact kayaks from Future Beach, but also has a lot more accessories and a carrying capacity of 300 lbs. The Cayman is a blow-molded kayak, so it is not as flexible as a roto-molded kayak, but it also means that it is more sturdy and scuff resistant.

The Cayman has an adjustable comfort seat, but if you are going to spend a lot of time fishing then you’ll probably want to invest in a more comfortable seat cushion as well. The adjustable step lock foot rest system ensures that there is plenty of room for your legs and the self bailing cockpit, which is a very useful feature. Features that are aimed specifically at anglers include two flush mount rod holders behind the seat, along with a swivel rod holder up front. The Cayman also has two accessory mounting rails and a 10’ cam-lock hatch with dry bag. What really sets it apart from some of the cheaper models is the large stern well, complete with bungees, that can be used for storing your crate or cooler.

While this kayak has handy front, rear and side carry handles, it would have been nice to have a paddle holder as well. Keeping the paddle secured and out of the way when fishing is always an issue with kayaks that does not include this feature. For the rest, the Cayman is a very decent fishing kayak that offers novice anglers everything they need right from the start. Serious anglers can also use the Cayman as a good starting point for adding some additional DIY features and really customizing it to their liking.
