Canadian company, Pelican International, has been supplying the world with their range of budged conscious kayaks, fishing boats, canoes and pedal boats for years. Their Sentry 100X Angler is another durable entry in their kayak fishing range that comes with a wallet friendly price of less than $400. The big selling point for the Sentry 100X is its stability as it is designed around a twin-arched multi-chine hull. For this sit-on-top kayak, Pelican pulled out all the stops to increase its efficiency without cranking up the price.

The Sentry 100X is 10’ in length and weighs about 45 lbs, making it suitable for a single paddler. Its maximum capacity is in the range of 300 lbs and its durability comes courtesy of the RAM-X hull material that Pelican uses for their kayaks. With its high impact-resistance and UV-protected exterior finish, you can be sure that your Sentry 100X isn’t going to fall apart after heavy use.

Since it is aimed at anglers, it’s no surprise that the Sentry 100X comes complete with three rod holders; two flush mount rod holders behind the seat and one swivel rod holder in the front. As it is quite a compact kayak, there’s just enough space in the front for maybe a tackle box, although it does have a sizable tankwell with bungee system as well for additional storage. It has enough space for a milkcrate or cooler and some other gear, so storage is definitely not an issue unless you like taking along everything including the kitchen sink when you go fishing. Two more scupper holes can be found in the tankwell, although none under the seat. The seating for the Sentry 100X is relatively comfortable as it is adjustable and has a ErgoForm backrest with seat cushion. The seat is raised about the scupper holes in the cockpit, so you don’t have to worry about it getting wet. For additional comfort, the Sentry 100X has adjustable footrests along with knee pads. At the back of the kayak you’ll find the drain plug along with a pull-cord that matches the one at the front.

While the Sentry 100X can obviously not compare to some of the top of the line fishing kayaks, it is an affordable and durable entry level option that is ideal for beginners.
