Field & Stream "Shadow Caster 123"

Kayak Make & Model

Brand:
Field and Stream
Model:
Shadow Caster 12'3"
MSRP ($):
799.00
Length (ft):
12.5

When it comes to affordability it is hard to beat the Shadow Caster Angler Kayak from Field & Stream. This sit-on-top kayak is designed to be used by one person and is ideally suited to fishing or recreational paddling. It is a durable and stable kayak that features a non-slip deck along with a tri-hull design for improved maneuverability. For additional standing room the Lift Link seat can also be raised up and flipped back while its twist-lock foot pegs makes quick adjustments a breeze while paddling.

The Shadow Caster has two universally compatible 33” accessory tracks, two paddle parks and two flush mount rod holders, which can be found behind the seat. In addition, it has built-in bow and stern handles, while the stand assist strap is great for casting out. Storage needs are handled by a stern storage well in conjunction with a double twist-lock hatches for gear that requires waterproof protection. While it doesn’t have a transducer scupper, it is still a kayak that offers plenty of value for money for those on a tight budget.

2017 Shadow Caster

I have owned 3 kayaks prior to this one: (1) Ascend A-10, (2) Ascend FS128T's. This kayak is superior to the FS128T in every way except internal storage space. If you are planning on camping or going on floats which require large amounts of equipment the FS128T will accommodate your needs better. If you are looking for better stability, better seating, better hull design, the Field & Stream Shadow Caster is the better platform for fishing. Additionally the hull design of the Shadow Caster mimics that of newer fishing kayak models released by Bonafide, Hobie, Perception and Wilderness Systems.

Pros & Cons

Pros:
Stability, Great Seat, Storage/Standing space
Cons:
Speed, Does not come with scupper plugs
