Jackson Kayak "Cuda HD"

Kayak Make & Model

Brand:
Jackson Kayak
Model:
Cuda HD
MSRP ($):
1,899.00
Length (ft):
13

Seeing as the Cuda is one of their top-selling kayaks, it is no surprise that Jackson Kayak has put a lot of effort into the design of the Cuda HD. Right off the bat the Cuda HD offers more stability, increased length as well as more high performance features when compared to the original Cuda. The Cuda HD comes with a new hinging bow hatch system, rod tip tubes to protect gear as well as various standard RAM and flush mount rod holders. It enables you to add accessories and customize placement to keep everything within reach thanks to its YakAttack track systems, while its standing pad provides comfort when sight fishing. Seating is comfortable as it comes with an Elite Seat 3.0 system that has hi-low and fore-aft trimming. In fact, this seat is so comfortable you will appreciate the fact that it can be removed and used on shore as well. With its low profile hull the Cuda HD suffers less from the effects of wind and since it is larger than the Cuda it can not only hold more gear, but is also more user-friendly towards beginners. Finally, the Cuda HD comes standard with a Plano box, which fits easily into the underseat storage pockets.

A New Take on a Classic

Enough time probably has not passed yet to call the original Cuda design a classic, but who cares? To me it is. Jackson has taken this classic Cuda design and given it a facelift.

As the kayak fishing industry grows, there's become a greater demand for kayaks designed with stability being a priority. While the original Cuda was a very efficient paddling kayak, only a few anglers felt stable enough to stand in it. Along with other new design elements that Jackson has started producing, it was time for the Cuda series to get an update. Enter the Cuda HD.

This new take on the Cuda features a much stabler hull, that still provides great paddling capabilities. It's as durable as any other Jackson (it can take a beating). The new Hi-Low seating design is very easy to use and now trims to give you more control of the boat. More rod storage than ever before including the new horizontal rod storage with built-in tip protectors. Marine Mat deck padding is included and they've added a dedicated scupper to house a transducer for fish finder set-ups. It is Power-Pole ready as well!

I put the boat through it's paces while down in the marsh and was quite impressed. The only downside to it, but it's a trending thing in most new kayak designs, is the weight. While not a huge issue for me, I can see how the weight would be an issue for some people.

All in all, it's a great kayak. Especially if you're fishing on slow moving flat water, or in the inshore marshes and bays.
