Daiwa recently unveiled their Kage LT MQ, which they herald as the new standard in crossover saltwater spinning reels.
The new Kage, which Daiwa points out is pronounced as "kah-gay" and not "cage", LT MQ has quite a rich feature set. This includes a one-piece MONOCOQUE Zaion body, which yields more space for larger gears. In turn, this allows increased torque and power while still offering the same gear ratios as competitive reels. According to Marc Mills, the Field Marketing Manager for Daiwa, the other thing that sets this reel and indeed the entire Kage line apart is that it is a dealer-driven series. With no internet sales for Kage, it is very much focused on the independent retailer. This also means that no price gauging from big online companies like Amazon can take place.

Mills added that the two key things about the Kage LT MQ are its carbon fiber body and frame, and the fact that it's manufactured using Daiwa's exclusive MONOCOQUE technology. These ensure that it is not just very lightweight and corrosion-resistant, but also very rigid. It all adds up to more power, more torque, and better leverage at the usual gear ratio while also benefiting from longer gear life.

Another benefit of the Zaion MONOCOQUE body is that it offers 360 degrees of stability and improved waterproofing. The lack of screw holes also means less weight and more space inside the reel body for large gearing. In addition, Daiwa uses a proprietary system of waterproofing protection, called Magseal. And for those wondering how effective the patented Magseal process is, let's just say that it was originally used in the aerospace industry on spacesuits!

If all of this wasn't enough, the Kage LT MQ also has an air rotor that was engineered to be extremely rigid and with no flex, especially at high drag pressures. Further reducing weight is the tubular air bail of this reel. Then there's the A7075 aircraft-grade aluminum DIGIGEAR technology used on this reel. It is very hard while still lightweight and much more resistant to wear than traditional gear materials. Last, but not least, the Kage LT MQ has a machined screw-in handle that connects directly to the main drive gear.

The Kage LT MQ has an MSRP of $329.99 - $359.99. For more information and to find a dealer near you, check out the official Daiwa website at https://www.daiwa.com
