Fishing kayaks have been getting bigger and better over the years, but weight and space are still two issues for people who like to take along absolutely everything. This is why taking along a battery to power all your electrical devices can be a tricky endeavor on a kayak.

In order to run everything: from GPS navigation to sounders and fish finders on a kayak, anglers usually opt for sealed lead acid batteries. However, there is an alternative available in the form of the Dakota Lithium 12 V SLA replacement batteries.

The biggest advantage of the Dakota Lithium batteries is their weight, which is light enough to take along on your fishing trip without weighing you down too much. It's not an insignificant difference either as they can be up to 60% lighter than their SLA equivalent. These batteries also boast the ability to last four times longer than normal SLA batteries, which once again is a big advantage if you plan on spending a lot of time out on the water. Finally, something that a lot of customers who make use of these batteries have found, is that they tend to much more efficient when it comes to the amount of usable capacity.

If you have limited space and power-hungry electronics aboard your kayak, then the Dakota Lithium batteries can make a huge difference. Of course, the versatility of these batteries is also another plus as you can easily use them for other purposes as well when you are not kayak fishing. They are obviously a bit more expensive than their equivalent SLA batteries, but in the long run, the Dakota Lithium batteries offer better value for money as you won't have to replace them as frequently.

After reading your review, I am interested in purchasing one of these batteries. Some amazon reviews I read mentioned the battery's life is not nearly as long as manufacture says. Have you heard any negative feedback on its durability?
