During the ICAST 2017 On the Water event, we had a chat with Dan Johnston from St Croix Fishing Company. He introduced us to three of their most popular fishing rods.

Imperial USA (freshwater and saltwater fly)

This rod comprises of a blend of multiple carbon fibres strategically placed for great castability.  Dan, who is also a fly casting instructor says that, for the dollar amongst USA manufacturers, he would put this rod up against any fly rod on the market.

Features:

  • Blend of high-modulus/high-strain SCIV graphite and SCII graphite.
  • Kigan Master Hand 3D stripper guides with aluminum-oxide rings and black frames.
  • Slim-profile ferrules.
  • Sea Guide® snake guides with black PVD coating for extra hardness and increased smoothness.
  • Uplocking, machined-aluminum reel seat with wood insert on most 2-6 wt. models.
  • Uplocking, machined-aluminum reel seat on 7-10 wt. models.
  • Premium-grade cork handle.
  • Kigan hook-keeper.
  • Two coats of Flex-Coat slow cure finish.
  • Rugged rod case with handle and divided polypropylene liner.
  • 15-year transferable warranty backed by St. Croix Superstar Service.

Legend Tournament Inshore Saltwater Rod.

Every component in this rod, from the hookkeeper to the guide platform and titanium frames are corrosion proof, using a very high strain carbon fibre unique to St Croix rods. This resulted in a rod that isn't only very castable and sensitive, but also very strong. Especially considering that it has the added benefit of St Croix' advanced reinforcing technology.

  • Advanced Reinforcing Technology (ART)
  • Integrated Poly Curve (IPC) tooling technology

This rod is one of Dan's favorites and features every bit of St. Croix technology possible. This rod is made of the most sensitive carbon fibre blend and a new product for 2018. It is a strong and fast rod, which was specially created for more aggressive fish, such as bass, pike and muskies.  It is also popular with anglers who like to cast heavy, compact lines and large flies.
