Several weeks ago, I received two bags of very odd-looking freshwater baits from YakAngler.com co-founder Mark Watanabe. Enclosed was a letter thanking me for my efforts in the past year writing for YakAngler. I thought, “What the heck am I going to do with these?”
When I ran into Mark at the Boondoggle and we were discussing these lures, he told me that he thought if anyone could catch something with them, it would be me. Now I take that as a high compliment and a challenge at the same time. It was then that Chip Gibson’s wife, Sam, came up with the name “Will it Fish?”
An idea took shape: you, the readers of YakAngler.com will get to submit your lure ideas. Freshwater, novelty, gag lures, whatever - if it was made for catching fish, let us know. Mark or Adam will chose one each month, and I will have to use it and catch something here in Tampa Bay. I’ll write up a report, detailing how I rigged it, and what I caught - the ultimate challenge.
First up for next week’s “Will it Fish” is the Yum “Shakalicious” in Watermelon Seed and Bama Bug. At 5” long, I’m not sure what to call these things. I have no idea how you would use these in freshwater, but I have a pretty good idea how I will rig these for redfish.
So there it is. “Will it Fish?” Stayed tuned and find out…
