When kayakers and fishing enthusiasts gathered in Henry County, Georgia on Saturday June 4, they focused on Special Olympics and the events of the day rather than who's who. Saturday marked the second annual Kayak and Fishing Field Day at the Cubihatcha Outdoor Center in Locust Grove. The event is sponsored by the Henry County Parks and Recreation Therapeutic Recreation Division and The Georgia Kayak Fishing Foundation (GKFF). But GKFF also used this day - perhaps their 'signature event' - to announce their new name, Paddle4Tomorrow
This weekend a group of volunteers from the Georgia Kayak Fishing Foundation, a charitable non-profit organization, joined forces with the Henry County Water and Sewer Authority as well as the Henry County Special Olympics to take a group of Special Olympics athletes for a day of kayaking and fishing.
As some of you know, I spent this week on the Georgia Coast fishing with the crew from The Kayak Fishing Show with Jim Sammons. Before I get started on the report of the trip, I need to thank, no we all need to thank Tony for setting all this up. He did all the leg work to get these guys to our coast and get the facilities on board to make this happen. I happened to be lucky enough to have all his hard work passed off to me to do the fun part. Thanks Tony!!!

One has been refitted to drag kayaks. The Captain Gabby, a shrimp vessel that's been retrofitted for kayak tours, is making its public debut at today's Blessing of the Fleet in Darien. After that the boat will moor at Darien's city docks, ready to ferry kayakers to far-flung coastal places too remote to reach by paddle power alone.
Let me start the scene from my point of view:
For those who do not know, I live in the PacNW. I haven't traveled a whole lot. I've never been to the places I've found myself this weekend (
