I was impressed

I find myself liking the performance of Columbia gear more and more lately. Not because I want to look like I just walked off the pages of some gear catalog like everyone else – in fact, I’m quite the opposite – but, because they make stuff that works for my style of fishing.

When YakAngler sent me the Columbia Freezer Neck Wrap I have to say that I was impressed. It fits well, keeps the sun off, is lightweight, and is quick drying. The fabric at the top and bottom is doubled up to keep the mask in place without being too tight. There are tiny holes to allow ventilation and I don’t have a problem with sunglass fog. Very comfortable to wear and not restraining or claustrophobic feeling at all.

I do find that for some reason, it likes to fall off my right ear and I’m not quite sure about the Omni-Freeze technology as this material didn’t really feel any different than any other.

Does What It Should – Yes

I was pleasantly surprised

There's no such thing as being too cautious when you're kayak fishing, spending hours exposed to the sun. I only wish we'd had the knowledge and the products that are now available to outdoor enthusiasts during the first 20 years of my life.

Between spray on sunscreens that you never have to touch (eliminating odors on your flies and lures that may turn fish off), and clothing that offers SPF 50 there's no excuse for subjecting your skin to the damaging rays that cause premature aging and various skin cancers.

I recently had the opportunity to demo the Freezer Neck Wrap from Columbia Sportswear. I have to admit I was more than a little skeptical of the idea that you could have any kind of fabric completely over your face and not feel hotter than you would without it.

I was pleasantly surprised at the cooling property of the Omni-Freeze® technology that makes this wrap work. Wearing it kept me shaded from having the sun beat directly on my face and the moisture wicking properties of the fabric actually did feel like it kept me cooler. It is also very comfortable to wear.

I would recommend this wrap to anyone that spends time outdoors. If you protect yourself now, you'll thank yourself (and Columbia) later.

Disclosure: The Men's Freezer Neck Wrap was sent to me to demo and review by YakAngler.com. This is my honest, unbiased opinion of how I thought it performed.(As stated, I wasn't too sure it would work). I am also a member of Columbia's Pro Purchase team. They did not compensate me for this review nor did this have any bearing on my findings.
