I don't have pictures for this day because it was just on a whim.

This past Saturday I found myself with two extra hours before the sun went down. Thank goodness we also set our clocks forward that night so next weekend I will have 3 extra hours.

I grabbed a combo and set it up, grabbed some minnows and hit my favorite public lake. Well, I was a little dismayed as I walked to the edge to see SEVERAL dead fish in the water. I'm not sure if they were frozen in the ice or if because of the solid surface most of the winter it hasn't been getting enough oxygen, but I didn't like what I saw.

I pitched out about 20 feet off the bank into what I call the Menorah Tree. It's a tree that has several branches that span out about a foot then go straight up giving the similar look to the Jewish Holiday Symbol.

This tree has yielded a lot of big Crappie for me over the past few years, and is like Charlie Brown's nemesis Kite Eating Tree only with a lot of my tackle attached to it!

So in my two hours I had a few taps and just one landed fish. A small Largemouth Bass took it VERY slowly and allowed me to say hello in person. As the water is still pretty cold, I didn't expect there to be a huge amount of activity or action out of the fish so just to be able to land the first of the year I was very happy!

I think this may start the year off for me and I hope that I might be able to pull off a few wins on the tourneys that I will be entering or am entered in! So if you plan these things as well. Good luck to you! I'm coming! LOL

Enjoy spring ladies and gents, force it into your area by willing it there!

    • Where to Put Cleat or Padeye?
    • I added cleats just behind my hips. I also have an anchor trolley now that allows me to still use these cleats and run the leads off anywhere along...

    • I did not put any sealant on my yak attack anchor trolley screws, And they do not leak any water. Make sure you use the recommended drill size.

    • Looks good! That'll also keep you rods tips from hanging on trees & low bridges. What's that switch thing on your deck below the fish finder?
