Am I wrong to think that this isn't such a great idea? I like the idea of getting people involved in fishing, what I don't like is the idea that any yahoo can go fishing any way they want. People rent boats for free fishing weekend and have no idea or reason to be in a boat.
Twice in one day I had these people paddle right over my line without care or cause. No apology for doing it or casting right into my area where I had been set up for a while.
Free fishing days shouldn't be for those that have no clue about etiquette of anglers and the surrounding, it's about getting people into the sport, life, and respect of the outdoors. This should be a lesson that crosses over to people as well.
I don't know if I'm just bitter about people in general or this is really an issue everywhere. I'm trying to grasp it, but it is difficult. What can be done? Probably nothing. What should be done? Free fishing days should be only with a licensed fishermen (I know, anyone can buy a fishing license) to teach them the right way. If you're not with a licensed fisher you should get fined.
On another note, I am no longer throwing away the fishing line that I find on shore or snag on while on the water. I'm going to start collecting it in a box or bag until the end of the year then go back and see how much I have cleaned in a year. I think this might have a better impact on a campaign to educate people about the horrible things they do and show them how much waste is found at our "PRETTY AND BEAUTIFUL OUTDOORS".
My rant for the weekend is now complete.
