Well after a couple of months of work YakAngler 2.0 is finally live!!  The change over didn’t happen as smoothly as I’d have liked, seems our prior host is having an issue with domain redirects.

I know there will be a ton of questions about how to use some of the new features.  Please post your questions in this thread.

Ok so some of you may be asking yourself what the heck did it take YakSushi soooo long to get the site up.  First it’s just me…  I work full time and have had do build the site in what little free time I have.  So sorry it took longer than I had hoped initially.

Let’s talk about some of the new features I’ve added to YakAngler 2.0:

Integrated point’s system- I’ve written rules for the site that will allot points for specific actions.  If you start a new topic in the forum you get 3 points.  If you have your topic in the forum deleted by a mod you will lose 3 points. Right now the points just increase your rank and give you medals but there are a ton of other things I have planned for our new points system.

Medals- Tied into our points system we have an achievement system of sorts.  Pretty basic now but I have a big ideas of what we can do with this!  Here is a list of possible medals right now.

Founders Medal
This medal was awarded to the founders of YakAngler.com.
DeadFish Medal The DeadFish Medal for best activities on the site (1000 points).
World Traveler The World Traveler medal is awarded to YakAngler's who have submitted 40 fishing locations.
YakAngler Pro Staff This medal is awarded to all YakAngler.com Pro Staffers.
YakAngler Mod This medal is awarded to all YakAngler.com Forum Moderators.
2010 YakAngler Supporter This medal is awarded to members who have shown their support of YakAngler.com for 2010 with a $5.00 donation.
2011 YakAngler Supporter This medal is awarded to members who have shown their support of YakAngler.com for 2011 with a $5.00 donation.

Article and Photo Submission forum- We now have built in forms for all our talented writers and photographers that would like to contribute to the content on YakAngler.  I’ve made separate submission forms for Submitting and Article, Review or Gallery Photo.  These are also tied into our points system.

Fishing locations Map- I know we had it on the other site but submitting a location should be much easier now with a streamlined submission form.

Events In YakSocial- YakSocial now has the ability to plan events with an integrated map to display events in your area.

New comments and Likes- The new comments and likes system is much more diverse allowing you to post photos and links in your comments, you can also subscribe to a comment string.

A truly integrated forum- I dropped the bridged forum we had on the other site for one that is truly integrated into YakAngler.  There will be a some growing pains on using the forum for everyone used to phpbb, so all your questions should be posted here.

There were a ton of other tiny tweaks and additions I added, too many to list but that’s it for the major stuff.  Don’t forget as questions come up please us the thread I started to post all the questions.  Hope you had a Merry Christmas, and I hope you enjoy the new site!

Mark Watanabe

Mark "YakSushi" Watanabe is the Co. Founder of YakAngler.com, "He built this site!". He considers himself a mediocre fisherman and an unexceptional writer. He's the devoted father of a ton of little sushis (Air Quotes) and everyday tech ninja.

Thanks for all the hard work you did on this site. It looks really good, and flow is really good from area to area. :-)
