Staying busy during the winter months

Well let me just start with a little introduction. I’m a kaYAK Angler land locked from the oceans living in Louisville, KY. I do most of my fishing on the Ohio River fishing mainly for hybrids, stripers, and saugers. As the winter months begin to quickly approach I can’t help but start to dread the very cold months and water that are inevitably ahead.

My one shining light is that as November approaches I know that I’ll have one last good run on the Ohio River. They will open the upper McAlpine Damn and as the water cools the saugers will begin to head upstream to the damns in search of food.

Well as I sit here this morning looking ahead beyond the month of November I can’t help but wonder what I’ll do with myself during the cold winter months. I may struggle into the neoprene outfit and make a polar bear plunge style attempt on the water but most likely I will stay to the confines of the frozen solid ground around the house. I’m an antsy type of person that needs things to keep me busy so I can already see myself driving my wife nuts this winter.

I assume that I’ll organize and re-organize my tackle as least 10 times, I’ll most likely buy new kayak fishing accessories or find new kayak fishing stuff that I will tell my wife that “I need for the spring season”. She will tell me that I don’t need it and to just be patient because spring will be here soon. I’ll pout and agree until I talk to my fishing buddy Mark which will inevitably show me something cool and make me want to buy something for my yak again.

Well that’s the thought going through my head this morning, I’m sure that I’ll keep you guys posted with new purchases or organizing tips that I come up with during the winter months.

If you have ideas on things to keep me busy or stories of how you stay busy during the winter months please add them to the forum.
