With the hustle of the holidays coming to an end and 2012 right round the corner, I took a step back to reflect on what a great year 2011 was for the YakAngler Nation. With many kayak fishing websites being five to ten or more years old, YakAngler is definitely the new kid on the block. October 19, 2011 marked our two-year anniversary. In that short time we have seen our community of active users double, and in 2011 we reached over 160,000 unique visitors.

2011 saw the emergence of the YakAngler/Kayak Fishing Radio “Boondoggle”, with the Presidents Day Boondoggle in Jacksonville, FL and the Columbus Day Boondoggle in Charleston, SC. Expect to see three or four Boondoggles in 2012, with the second annual Presidents Day Boondoggle being held in Chokoloskee, FL February 17-20.

2011 kayak anglers choice awards

We teamed up with Kayak Fishing Radio in 2011 to produce the first annual “Kayak Anglers Choice Awards”. This was the first time anyone had attempted to rally kayak anglers across the spectrum for an unbiased look at the top products and anglers in our industry.

YakAngler also produced its first digital publication. Yes, I know - it was only a small six-page spread, but the “Christmas Wish List” gave us huge insight on how much effort goes into producing digital or print media. Keep your eyes out for more eZines in 2012.

The success YakAngler has experienced is a direct reflection of our dedicated community, aka the YA Nation, and our hard-working staff. We couldn’t do it without you folks! I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful New Year, and we’ll see you in 2012!
