There are very few accessories for your kayak that you’ll use more during a day of fishing than your seat, and probably none that will contribute more to your comfort while you’re on the water. I have low back problems, so after a bit of sitting with my legs out, I generally need to get into shallow water and on my feet for a while. I’ve tried several seats with “traditional” cushions, and always wind up shifting my weight every few minutes to eliminate the “pressure points” under my sitz bones. I was looking for a solution to the problem, and I found Skwoosh.
I purchased my Skwoosh Pro Angler Seat almost a year ago (March 2010) from Austin Kayak. It listed then for $135.00, but with some cool discounts I got it for just under $115.00 with shipping. It now lists for $119.00 on the Skwoosh website without shipping or handling.
I recently received the new Skwoosh Custom Gel Fishing Seat. Due to the snow storms and then the flooding here in the east it has taken me a while get out and test this seat, but it was well worth the wait. The first thing I noticed was the tag that reads “Made in the U.S.A.” What a great concept. All of the seams look to be double stitched and will stand a lot of abuse. The back rest area is reinforced with 2 fiberglass rods to keep the back rigid. There are 4 corrosion resistant brass clips that connect the seat to the kayak. On the back there are 3 rod holders with bungee tie downs. There is also a plastic O-ring to attach accessories and 2 elastic tool holder attachments. There are also camp seat conversion clips.
