Jackson Kayak introduced the “Cuda” late last year as a follow-up to the popular “Coosa”. The Cuda is a longer boat, ready for bigger water. When my oldest son told me that he wanted to start kayak fishing – I was happy, because I’d have a new kayak fishing buddy.
When you're on the water, other boats can present hazards for kayak fisherman. They can also be a lifeline. Cell phones are great when you find yourself in a hairy situation, but they don't always work. That's where the VHF radio comes in. It allows for on-the-water communication with other boats on the water, the Coast Guard, and you can also get weather information in case you don't notice the storm moving in on your location.
My last two trips have been very tough due to cold temperatures and strong winds. These are conditions a lot of kayak fisherman try to avoid; I've been guilty of this myself. High winds definitely annoy me more than cold temperatures. Wind can really limit your presentations and make it next to impossible to keep boat position.
6 ft Shark drags 51 year old Rupert Kirkwood and his kayak out to sea. Kayak fishing off the coast of Llfracombe, North Devon UK, Kirkwood drifted his mackerel bait for about 4 hours prior to getting slammed by the shark.
As an avid kayak fisherman, I’ve noticed that there are a few things that are always constant. Things such as: the wind’s tendency to -always- blow in your face, or the fact that the kayak seems to put on 30 lbs after a long day’s paddle. Another constant is the fact that most everything carried on the kayak will get wet at some point. Sure some things might not always get wet, but give it enough time and it will eventually get soaked. This is why I was extremely excited to try out Plano’s Guide Series waterproof boxes.
While in Harrisburg, PA last week at the Eastern Outdoors Show I met the folks from X-Fish. They have a sharp looking product and certainly looks like a platform that I would like to try fishing from. After chatting with the owner for about 45 minutes I asked him to send me some information about his product so that I could share with you fellow YakAnglers. See his Press Release below.
