Review: Womens Kokatat Neozip and Innercore Photograph by Mark Watanabe

I hate the cold! I have lived most of my life in places that snow is something to expect. This doesn’t mean I have adapted or even like it. That said, I am not the most eager to fish when the love of my life has an interest in fishing in anything below 70° F. This weekend I had the opportunity to try out some gear from Kokatat. I went to a lake and it was 52°F and breezy. I wouldn’t call it the most inviting weather forecast. Never the less, I didn’t have any valid reason to say no.

I had the Kokatat Neozip Long Jane wetsuit, Innercore Women’s long sleeve shirt, and a fleece from my closet. I was nervous because I had never worn so few layers. I thought for sure I would leave the water early because I was too cold. I was completely surprised. The materials were comfortable to wear. It allowed my skin to breath and kept me warm. They had doubled the material in all the right places. I didn’t sweat or shiver. I was quite content. I even removed my fleece jacket and stayed comfortable. The wet suit also had a zipper that I could take a break if necessary without fully exposing myself to the elements. It was great. I had no idea that it would be such a pleasant experience. I didn’t catch anything that day. I would normally be quite distraught if I was skunked and the weather was bad. Thanks to the Kokatat gear I was able to appreciate a day out. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who fishes in less than ideal temperatures. Kokatat not only designs the gear but they also design the materials. I never once felt that comfort was sacrificed for functionality.
