I received the Ranger 15 just last week, and it was with great anticipation. I was intrigued with the first glimpses of the kayak and wondered how it would handle. Coming in a single seat (15.1) and tandem models (15.2), the Ranger 15 is Malibu’s entry into the hybrid kayak market.
No, they are not talking about Jim Halpert from the television series “The Office”. The Jackson Kayak “Big Tuna” is the latest fishing kayak created by Jackson and their spokesman Drew Gregory. This is the third (and quite possibly most unique) kayak released by Jackson since they teamed up with Drew.
Four months ago Blake Young showed us the concept drawing of a new kayak model for NuCanoe. From what I saw it seemed like all the shortcoming of the original NuCanoe had been addressed. Earlier this month we were informed the first kayaks had been completed and were headed to Kentucky. This weekend the YakAngler crew was able to put the yak through its paces like any true kayak fisherman would. I have two words for NuCanoe, Freakin Awesome!
Like last week’s article, 5 Fishing Kayaks Under $500 my goal is to get you on the water and fishing. I don’t care if it’s a $50 kayak you bought off Craigslist or a $2,000 fully rigged yak you picked from you local dealer. If the boats get you onto the water and back safely in my eyes it’s a keeper. This week I came up with a list of 5 kayaks any angler can easily use for kayak fishing, this time they are all under $700.
Every now and then, a product comes on the market that challenges the conventional wisdom about what’s “cool” and what’s usable. The Santa Cruz “Raptor” is such a product. At first glance, it looks like the child of a Dutch shoe and a toboggan. Those of us who use SOT kayaks probably wouldn’t even give it a second glance. Jim Martin, the owner of Santa Cruz kayaks and creator of the Raptor recently sent one of his kayaks to me to demo, and after looking it over like it was a space alien, I did demo it. It was awesome!
One thing many kayak fishermen have in common is the desire to customize their fishing kayaks. An easy way to add your own personal flair is by adding stickers or decals to your kayak. Many of today’s Roto-Molded kayaks have a textured surface making it hard to get the decals to stick for more than a few trips. Bill Howard shows us how to get stickers to stick to his Malibu kayak’s textured surface.
Talking to many perspective kayak anglers, one thing I often hear is “I can’t afford a $1,000 - $2,000 kayak”. Many fishermen looking at buying a kayak feel overwhelmed by the cost of many popular fishing kayaks. Folks you don't need to rock a 2K dollar kayak to catch fish. I’ve compiled a list of 5 sit on top kayaks that are under $500, giving you some cheaper options to get out onto the water and fish.
Owning a kayak fishing website has its perks, one of them is being the multitude of different styles of kayaks we get to fish from. Our most recent addition, a Diablo Paddlesports Chupacabra standup kayak or Sup Yak. Find out why the Chubracabra has quickly become my go to fishing kayak when hitting may of the creeks and rivers of Kentucky.
Well I finally got the Jackson Coosa on the water. I can say it performed just like I thought it would. The Coosa is designed for Rivers and lakes and I can see why. It is very slow and tracks horribly. I will say that it is very stable. And makes for a good fly fishing platform.
Fluid Kayaks finally launch their dedicated fishing kayak. The Bamba is not a modification of an existing design; instead, it is a completely new design to make sure all fishermen’s wishes are taken care of. The Bamba offers excellent stability, great trawling speed and all the gadgets you need for a superb fishing experience.
