Hey folks, Here's the rundown of my show last night! Thank you all for listening in and if you're sorry you didn't or couldn't, make sure to listen to the podcast.
The LandingCrew called in and talked about bass fishing the past week and the TKAA tournament this weekend.
The Hammerhead called in and talked about striper fishing and catching his personal best 42 inch monster.
I recently upgraded my Personal Flotation Device (PFD). The vest I had wasn’t really made for kayak fishing in a sit-on-top. It was uncomfortable to wear, so I would just toss it in the back of the kayak to meet the legal requirements….not something I should be doing. As a pro staff writer/public figure, every photo of me in the kayak SHOULD show me wearing a PFD, and I apologize for my irresponsibility in regards to that.
I haven’t been writing very much lately because, well there hasn’t been a lot to write about. Last week, the wind from Hurricane Irene made being on the water tumultuous at best and I’ve learned to trust my instincts when it comes to that and stayed off the water 25 knot winds aren’t conditions you should be in while kayak fishing.
I’ve never been good with words or saying I’m sorry. I’m not quite sure how to say this, so I’m just going to say it. Even though it’s hard for both of us, I’m sure that you’ll agree that it’s for the best.
One issue that I am very passionate about is sun protection, and I’m sure that you’ve educated yourself about the importance of protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. All kinds of health issues can arise related to sun exposure, not to mention the agony of sunburn. To me, sun protection is every bit as important as wearing your PFD and the lures and tackle that you’ll be using. Even though I live in one of the most hot, humid climates known to man, face protection is an important part of my sun protection arsenal.
One thing folks ask me quite a bit is “What’s the best kayak I should get?” Since the variables are so complex, there’s no simple, cut and dry answer. It’s almost like asking someone what sort of shoes to buy. I’m sure that any kayak fishing guide or pro angler will tell you to get the kayak that they use because, chances are, they’re on a kayak manufacturers pro staff and that’s what they’re supposed to do.
Have you ever wanted to settle that debate with your buddy about best kayak or kayaking product? Do you know of a kayak fishing product that you think deserves to be recognized? Well now you’ll have a chance to cast your vote for your favorites!
Skinny Water Culture is a local fishing wear clothing designer who makes fishing shirts and products designed to protect us from the sun and make us look cool while we’re out doing what we love to do. Keep an eye on their site though because, like any gear manufacturer prices tend to fluctuate. They also have a ladies line of products. Since I’m always preaching about sun protection while kayak fishing, I figured I’d follow some of my own advice…
Two words of advice to live by pertaining to kayak fishing: Never underestimate Mother Nature and listen to your gut instincts, you have them for a reason...
