Kayaker wins World Championship

Last weekend, 50 fly anglers from around the US and Canada converged on McMinnville, TN, for the Musky Fly Fishing World Championship. Competitors hit a couple local rivers from bass boats, drift boats, and even a few kayaks. Their goal - catch and release the largest muskellunge using fly tackle, and promote musky conservation efforts. Little did they know, a kayak angler was going to take the win.

2011 My Year in Review

As the year comes to a close, I decided to sit back and take a look at the year that was 2011.  The year really started in the last few months of 2010 for me when I really started to get involved in on-line fishing forums, especially YakAngler.com.   This led me to launch YakFish.net with the help of YakSushi Media in January.

Columbia Drainmakers

As fellow YakAngler's you probably realize how important a good pair of shoes are.  While kayak fishing we often get in and out of our kayaks to fish eddys, walk up on the banks, or just loading and unloading our kayaks.

Keeping it Clean

Oregon, this weekend, joins its neighboring states of Washington and Idaho with mandatory boat inspection stations.  Kayaks are not exempt from these inspections which seak out possible invasive species that include quagga mussels, eurasian milfoil, and more.  Failure to stop will get you pulled over, and ticketed by the state patrol.  Let's take a look at common trouble areas on kayaks and how to deal with them.

Choosing The Right Kayak for You

One thing folks ask me quite a bit is “What’s the best kayak I should get?” Since the variables are so complex, there’s no simple, cut and dry answer. It’s almost like asking someone what sort of shoes to buy. I’m sure that any kayak fishing guide or pro angler will tell you to get the kayak that they use because, chances are, they’re on a kayak manufacturers pro staff and that’s what they’re supposed to do.

February Fishing with Family and Friends

I went fishing this past weekend with my younger brother and my brother-in-law.   Normally I would be loading up the kayaks and gear but being that neither of these guys are very experienced anglers I thought it best we just go to a local lake in Crestwood, KY.

HitchSafe

I was refered to this product by a friend and local kayak retail store owner Doug Davis.   Doug is an avid kayaker and his store sells a multitude of kayaks and kayak accessories.   He, especially during his white water excursions, understands the importance of stashing your keys and money in a safe and secure location.   This is a great product for us kayak anglers that want to stash your keys and other personals while your out there on the water kayak fishing.
