Fall Bite in Full Effect

Fishing in the VA tidewater area is really heating up.  Reports of speckled trout are pouring in from all over with various MirrOlures and jighead n soft plastics getting the job done.  I wasn't able to get in on the trout action, but I did find a few other species.

MONSTER RED

So I was sitting there in my office, being productive, getting my work done, feeling good after the recent tournament, when I decide to give Kayak Kevin a call to wish him a happy birthday. When he picked up I could tell he was excited about something. It turns out he had a 46" red drum in his lap! My palms instantly got a little sweaty and my mind started racing (I know, I have an addiction). I immediately wanted to be out there fishing for those powerful bulls. He went on to tell me the story, which I'm sure he'll share on his website, then hung up to chase some more. He was under the CBBT fishing for sheepshead when the reds showed up. About 10 minutes later, I get a call from Kevin's buddy Lee Williams and he says "dude, I was on your piling fishing for sheepshead when I hooked into a massive red!".

Before the Big Tourney

Who's Awesome?!? My wife! That's who! She agreed to hold the fort down with both kids while I made the annual trip down for the TKAA tourney. I got permission to leave Thursday night and soon felt a good binge coming on. It was like being back in college and it was the first day of spring break. I smiled as I thought... I'm going to get crazy hammered on some fishing then hang out with all the cool kids at the biggest kayak fishing party in VA. WooHoo!!!

Grand Slam

I got lucky. I was expecting to have to work with my dad at his shop while my mom got in on some quality time with her granddaughter. But my dad got it covered so he told me to just go kayak fishing. Bingo. Bango. Weather looked good and the tides were alright so I launched at one of my favorite summer time spots, the CBBT.

One For The Record Books

In the saltwater kayak fishing community of Virginia, no other kayak angler has achieved what Kayak Kevin has. Many avid non-kayak anglers find it very difficult to do, but he reached "expert angler" status in the Virginia Saltwater Tournament, not only once, but twice (2006 & 2007). Catching 6 citations (trophies) of different species in one year all from a kayak is no easy feat. But on Tuesday, July 5th, he brought yet another goal into realization and I was privileged and honored to be a part of it.

RobChoi-Fishing.blogspot.com

Doing my typical interweb searching last night had me land on on of our newest YakAngler's blog www.robchoi-fishing.blogspot.com.  Checking out his site I couldn't help but be reminded of another famous Chesapeake Bay kayak angler Kayak Kevin.  I'm not sure how he'd feel about the comparison but it could be worse...  I could have said he reminded me of myself!  Enough babble check out this latest compilation video!

Hit The Beaches!

Well it's June and on the Space Coast of Florida that means it's time to hit the beaches!! So I will start off with my offshore report: This time of year the bait pods show up in huge numbers just outside the breakers of all of our local beaches. This is the best time to take your kayak offshore and look for any one of the twenty plus species of game fish that will be feeding on the glass minnows, threadfins, sardines, mullet, and porgies that make up the bait balls.
