Review: Vibram Five Fingers

I've seen more and more folks sporting the Vibram Five Fingers and eventually broke down and bought a pair.  I wanted to see how they hold up to the rigors of fishing and walking through slippery streams and rivers.  They have been out with me kayak fishing for a few trips now, this is how they fared.

Ocean Kayak Prowler Trident 13

The Trident 13 was the second kayak that I had purchased and my first Sit-on-Top (SOT).   To be quit honest when I first started fishing from a kayak and really looking into the boats that were out there I just kept getting pulled back to Ocean Kayak.

Standard Horizon HX851 VHF Radio

As is my normal Sunday evening, I’m sitting here in front of my computer surfing the web looking for stories relating to kayak fishing for YakAngler.  I stumbled across this video of Jim Sammons talking about the importance of communications while out on the water kayak fishing and it made me realize that we haven’t done many articles discussing this topic or even profiling any of these products.   As Jim mentions in the video below, a great option is the Standard Horizon HX851 VHF Radio.

Stripers in the Bay

“JINGLE DRAGS, JINGLE DRAGS, COWS ARE ON THEIR WAY, TIME TO BE AT KIPTOPEKE, WHERE WE EEL ALL DAY HEY”  This is the song all Striper kayak fisherman hear in there merry heads after thunder chicken day “thanksgiving”. The water temps drop and the Stripers from the northern Atlantic merge with the “rockfish” from the northern bay at the concrete ships and the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (CBBT). This is going to become a how to, where to, and a traveler’s guide to fishing the winter BassZilla migration of Virginias eastern shore.

Jim Sammons Enormous Tuna

Panama -While kayak fishing on Panama's legendary Hannibal Banks, Jim Sammons, host of The Kayak Fishing Show, hooked into an enormous yellow fin tuna, and one of the fishing fights of his life. Over the course of his 3.5 hour battle with the tuna, Jim and his kayak were towed for miles. For the first time ever, the complete battle can now be watched online in full high definition.

Exofficio - Jims Picks

After spending a few minutes with Kayak Angler Jim Sammons, there are a few things that you will quickly realize: first, the man loves to fish.  Secondly if he's using a product its because he loves it.  And 3rd, did I mention that he has a television show on WFN?   So after spending some time on the water with Jim, and discussing some of the things that we do here on the site,  he had the idea of highlighting some of his favorite products by Exofficio.

On The Kayak Fishing Show

As some of you know, I spent this week on the Georgia Coast fishing with the crew from The Kayak Fishing Show with Jim Sammons. Before I get started on the report of the trip, I need to thank, no we all need to thank Tony for setting all this up. He did all the leg work to get these guys to our coast and get the facilities on board to make this happen. I happened to be lucky enough to have all his hard work passed off to me to do the fun part. Thanks Tony!!!

Who is Jim Sammons

I came across this video and just felt like I should share.  Its hard to deny what he has done for this sport and I think that he has a great personality to be a front man for kayak angling.  I had the pleasure of fishing with Jim last month and had a great time.  No doubt that his dedication and fun personality is what made him the "God Father of Kayak Fishing".
