Spring Training

Due to a commitment at work, I missed out on the incredible Chokoloskee Boondoggle trip to the 10,000 Islands area of South Florida. Well, this past week work paid me back. I got a chance to go to Florida to work for a few days, and had the bonus of taking Thursday and Friday off to do some fishing. I quickly hatched a plan - not only was I going to get out on the warm Florida waters, but I was going to get to finally get to give the new Jackson “Cuda” a sea trial.

Last year, the Jackson Kayak's 'Coosa took inland kayak fishing by storm.  An incredibly agile and stable fishing platform that excelled on small rivers, the Coosa still left a little to be desired on larger bodies of water where speed and direction are more desired.  Jackson Kayaks put Drew Gregory back to work and now two new fishing platforms are poised to hit the market.

Review: Jackson Coosa Kayak

Well I finally got the Jackson Coosa on the water. I can say it performed just like I thought it would. The Coosa is designed for Rivers and lakes and I can see why. It is very slow and tracks horribly. I will say that it is very stable. And makes for a good fly fishing platform.

Review: Jackson Kayak Coosa

My journey with the Coosa started last December when a number of us met in Tennessee to pick up our Coosa’s from the Jackson Kayak factory.  Since this allowed for a behind the scenes experience, I must add a few things that are important to me.  First, the entire Jackson operation is top notch.  They are a family friendly company and entirely US based.  They really care about their customers, so much so that the feedback they have received from our group of anglers has already led to small changes in the way the Coosa is manufactured and assembled.

Canoe Kentucky

This week’s spot light is a local Kayak and Canoe outfitter Canoe Kentucky located on the Elk Horn Creek in Peaks Mill, KY just outside of Frankfort, KY. Mark and I along with fellow YakAngler member James traveled to Peaks Mill this past Sunday morning to demo a few kayaks and introduce ourselves to the owners. We were blown away by Nathan and Allison's hospitality, customer service, and their enthusiasm for all things paddle sports.
