As you have recently read here on YakAngler.com, four U.S. kayak anglers participated in the Hobie Kayak Fishing World Championships held in Australia. We here at YakAngler are so pleased to be part of this kayak fishing sport that is taking not only a national stage but playing in an international arena. I recieved this press release from a Hobie spokesperson earlier today and I just had to share. I hope that you enjoy reading it as much as I did.
Aussies take the first annual Diawa Hobie World Kayak Fishing Tournament. It should be no surprise that the Aussies took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in an event held on their home waters what was a surprise was how well Jose Chavez did. Jose led the tournament after the first day of fishing but slipped to 4th by tournaments end. Scott Baker of Mornington Victoria Australia took first being crowned the first Diawa Hobie Kayak Fishing World Champion, Jason Meech took second, and Kevin Winchester took third.
Look out Bassmasters, here comes the little plastic boats! This month 4 US Hobie Fishing Team members will compete in the first ever Kayak Fishing World Championship! The US team will compete against Hobie Fishing Teams from Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, and Australia. For more details about the kayak fishing tournament check out the following press release from Hobie.
It's hard to search kayak fishing on YouTube and not run into one of his videos. Weather it's him trying to outrun a great white shark, dodging breaching humpback whales, or his more recent War On Fish series Josh Holmes aka Yakass is a true YakAngler! Josh has fished the waters off the east coast of Australia for over 10 years and logged over 12,000 miles on Hobie pedal-powered kayaks.
We got a chance to ask Josh a few questions and this is what he had to say.
