I you haven’t already, make sure you add a Kayak Fishing the Chesapeake Bay 2 to you kayak anglers Christmas list! Kayak Kevin’s newest DVD hit the stores this week and by the looks of the trailer, has all the tips and techniques to help you land your next citation fish. This DVD focuses on the warm water species in the lower Chesapeake Bay but is still full of a ton of hard core kayak fishing action.
So I was sitting there in my office, being productive, getting my work done, feeling good after the recent tournament, when I decide to give Kayak Kevin a call to wish him a happy birthday. When he picked up I could tell he was excited about something. It turns out he had a 46" red drum in his lap! My palms instantly got a little sweaty and my mind started racing (I know, I have an addiction). I immediately wanted to be out there fishing for those powerful bulls. He went on to tell me the story, which I'm sure he'll share on his website, then hung up to chase some more. He was under the CBBT fishing for sheepshead when the reds showed up. About 10 minutes later, I get a call from Kevin's buddy Lee Williams and he says "dude, I was on your piling fishing for sheepshead when I hooked into a massive red!".
So many of us kayak anglers got into kayak fishing and started researching the sport and other nuts out there doing the same thing that we were. Well it doesn’t take long after a few minutes of Google searches to come across Kayak Kevin Whitley.
In the saltwater kayak fishing community of Virginia, no other kayak angler has achieved what Kayak Kevin has. Many avid non-kayak anglers find it very difficult to do, but he reached "expert angler" status in the Virginia Saltwater Tournament, not only once, but twice (2006 & 2007). Catching 6 citations (trophies) of different species in one year all from a kayak is no easy feat. But on Tuesday, July 5th, he brought yet another goal into realization and I was privileged and honored to be a part of it.
Part of being successful at fishing is making sure that you can tie a reliable and strong line to line connecting knot. Nothing is worse than feeling that “Thunk!” on the end of your line and then, just like that…..he was gone, only to reel in a “little piggy” curly Q which will tell you that your knot came undone.
Something you may not know about me is that I’m a bit of an amateur movie critic. I abhor going to the theater – $12 bucks to get in – $10 bucks for a bottle of water and a popcorn – having kids sit next to you while texting the entire time, only to be subjected to a horrible film, is very disagreeable to me on so many levels.
Kayak Kevin has managed to do it again. Many of us watched the daily updates of his 600 mile tour around the Chesapeake Bay and now the video release date has been released along with its trailer. The video will be released Wednesday the 22st. Please click the "read more" button to see the trailer and the link to purchase your copy.
