The Southwest Florida Kayak Angler’s Association “Spring Snook and Redfish Challenge” is in the record books. On May 12, 2012, some of the area’s finest anglers competed in windy conditions for great prizes, including the first place Native Ultimate 12 kayak.
There were some big questions answered at the Peck’s Third Annual Ozello Classic on May 5, 2012. Who would win this all-important Classic at the halfway mark in the series year? Who would be the series leader after this event? Would the series still be nearly deadlocked at the top? Could it be any closer? Oh, yeah – and who would catch the biggest fish at Ozello?

This was my first Inshore Fishing Association (IFA) kayak tournament. This event proved to be a great opportunity to fish a new area, and meet old and new friends, just like the Boondoggles - except the anglers are a little more tight-lipped. During Saturday pre-fishing for Robert Vaughn (from Columbia) and me, it looked like we were in some fishy waters, but we struck out. We checked out the Turner River and the Lazaretto Creek. Both places we noticed bait activity and possible redfish escaping our lures, but no hookups to confirm our thoughts.
Preston Gay got up in the early morning of March 10. It was just like any day, except this was the morning of his first Kayak Fishing ClassicS tournament. In fact, it was Preston’s first tournament ever, so the butterflies were buzzing around to keep him company. He prepared to go fishing the best he knew how. Little did he know the day’s events would unfold in his favor and he would “Take the Fort by Storm”.
Tournament season is finally upon us and one of the most anticipated tournament trails was in full swing this past weekend in Jacksonville, FL. The IFA Kayak Fishing Tour Presented by Hobie is one of the largest and most heavily promoted tournament series in the country.

The “Southern Redfish Classic” is the series championship, and the series point’s leader at the conclusion of this tournament wins a Diablo Paddlesports kayak.
