Tournament season is finally upon us and one of the most anticipated tournament trails was in full swing this past weekend in Jacksonville, FL. The IFA Kayak Fishing Tour Presented by Hobie is one of the largest and most heavily promoted tournament series in the country.
As the year comes to a close, I decided to sit back and take a look at the year that was 2011. The year really started in the last few months of 2010 for me when I really started to get involved in on-line fishing forums, especially YakAngler.com. This led me to launch YakFish.net with the help of YakSushi Media in January.
The Irishwaterdogs Invitational was a great event again in 2011.The IWDI is an annual kayak fishing tournament held in Jacksonville, Florida each October. The goal for this event was to bring together anglers, paddlers, vendors and local charities to help raise money for the Cleft Palate clinic of Jacksonville, FL.
In 2010, the Irishwaterdogs Invitational was born. A fundraising event for Wolfson Children’s Hospital, nearly 100 kayak anglers hit the waters around Jacksonville, FL, to fish the slam, win cash prizes, and hopefully take home new kayaks. Registration for the 2011 Irishwaterdogs Invitational is now open. Hoping to double last year's attendance, the Cleft Palate Center of Jacksonville will be this years fund raising recipient.
The results are in from the 2011 Jacksonville Kayak Fishing Classic! This year 406 kayak anglers converged onto Jacksonville Florida to participate in the largest kayak fishing tournament in existence. $33,000.00 was raised benefiting the Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville and the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation. With only a few days until the Jacksonville Kayak Fishing Classic, procrastinating kayak anglers can rejoice. You can still register for one of the largest kayak fishing tourniments in the world. The $90 entrance fee includes a t-shirt, Captain's Bag, and a $10 certificate from Yak-Gear.com. Sunday the 20th
Rob “ABadBackcast”, Mark “Landingcrew”, Chip “Treehugger”, and Brad “The Clone” all were up an on the road by 3:30am. They were headed south to meet up with Chuck “Redfish Chuck” and Dee “ReelKayakFishing” for a day of Mosquito Lagoon.
Presidents Day Weekend saw members of YakAngler.com, KayakFishingRadio.com, IrishWaterDogs.com and Jaxkayakfishing.com from all over the country descend upon a small Florida State park in Jacksonville Florida. Here is the recap of our weekend down in Little Talbot Island State Park.
