The Halfway Point, Ozello Classic

There were some big questions answered at the Peck’s Third Annual Ozello Classic on May 5, 2012. Who would win this all-important Classic at the halfway mark in the series year? Who would be the series leader after this event? Would the series still be nearly deadlocked at the top?  Could it be any closer? Oh, yeah – and who would catch the biggest fish at Ozello?

Kayaker wins World Championship

Last weekend, 50 fly anglers from around the US and Canada converged on McMinnville, TN, for the Musky Fly Fishing World Championship. Competitors hit a couple local rivers from bass boats, drift boats, and even a few kayaks. Their goal - catch and release the largest muskellunge using fly tackle, and promote musky conservation efforts. Little did they know, a kayak angler was going to take the win.

IFA Savannah, Georgia Results

This was my first Inshore Fishing Association (IFA) kayak tournament. This event proved to be a great opportunity to fish a new area, and meet old and new friends, just like the Boondoggles - except the anglers are a little more tight-lipped. During Saturday pre-fishing for Robert Vaughn (from Columbia) and me, it looked like we were in some fishy waters, but we struck out. We checked out the Turner River and the Lazaretto Creek. Both places we noticed bait activity and possible redfish escaping our lures, but no hookups to confirm our thoughts.

Rookie Takes Fort by Storm

Preston Gay got up in the early morning of March 10. It was just like any day, except this was the morning of his first Kayak Fishing ClassicS tournament. In fact, it was Preston’s first tournament ever, so the butterflies were buzzing around to keep him company. He prepared to go fishing the best he knew how. Little did he know the day’s events would unfold in his favor and he would “Take the Fort by Storm”.

Bedding Bass

Fishing bass during the spawn, in particular bedding bass - what a touchy subject! If you ask ten bass fishermen their thoughts,  the answers will vary from “never” to “situation” to “always”, and the discussions on the subject sound like presidential debates. Let us delve into the “situation”. Why? Because this is the one I adhere to, and I am going to go over the thought process, baits, and what to look for.
