The day of the big oops

I woke up around 5AM and looked outside and said to myself "self you should go fishing". So to the garage I go to gather a few things and I find I am out of D.O.A CAL baits so I grabbed a few packs of Bass Assassin Blurps and jumped in the truck and headed over to Action Bait and Tackle for some shrimps just to have a backup plan. Chatted with the owner for a minute then off I went on the long fifteen minute drive to the Mosquito Lagoon.

Florida East Coast Report 07-30-10

As we say goodbye to July all we can do is hope that August brings us more rain. The water levels are down in all the Intercoastal waterways and with that it makes finding fish on the flats a little harder, so with that I am going to focus this report on finding fish in deeper water.

Florida East Coast Report 07-12-10

Summer is in full swing and the water temps are as hot as they will get for the rest of the year, and with that warm water comes the age old question “where are the fish? ".

Who Is Redfish Chuck?

I met Charles Levi Jr. aka Redfish Chuck about six months ago on our website.  In those six months he has become one of YakAngler.com most supportive and active members. Who is this part time Emotion Kayaks sponsored guide and YakAngler Regional Editor?  I stole an hour of his time last week to find out a little more about Redfish Chuck.

Here Comes The Heat!

Ok so summer is definitely here on the East Coast of Florida and with it comes the HEAT! Instead of rolling out of bed at five or six in the morning to go fish I am up around four and rather than a long sleeve cotton shirt I look for a cooler alternative like a Columbia style fishing shirt.

Hit The Beaches!

Well it's June and on the Space Coast of Florida that means it's time to hit the beaches!! So I will start off with my offshore report: This time of year the bait pods show up in huge numbers just outside the breakers of all of our local beaches. This is the best time to take your kayak offshore and look for any one of the twenty plus species of game fish that will be feeding on the glass minnows, threadfins, sardines, mullet, and porgies that make up the bait balls.

Mission Fishin Jigs

About four years ago I picked up a standard pack of 1/2 oz jig heads to tip with shrimp for tripletail along the Port Canaveral buoy line. The first buoy we got to had three or four nice tripletail on it so out goes the shrimp jig combo and right away we are hooked up with a nice fish only to have the hook straighten out.
One of my fishing buddies gave me one of his jigs heads, a Mission Fishin jig. I tie it on and threw out another shrimp this time there was a much different result when my line went tight.
