When I woke up Sunday morning, it was 9°F. I wasn’t going to go fishing, so I decided to watch some of the Sunday morning fishing shows while planning out the day. On one of the shows the host mentioned something about keeping a log book, which reminded me about my New Year’s Resolution.  

By no means would I call this a definitive guide to rigging a kayak for photos and video - more along the lines of some personal preferences I have acquired over time. I'm sure they will evolve as fresh ideas emerge and innovative new products serve the needs of this ever-changing sport. For now, I'd like to share the setup I used to shoot footage over the past two years, along with some new items that I've acquired. I will use scenes from my last video, Addiction: Kayak Fishing, to refer to some of the angles I talk about. Although it was a lot of work putting it together, I found it very rewarding to look back, relive, and share those cherished moments on the water.

Fishing bass during the spawn, in particular bedding bass - what a touchy subject! If you ask ten bass fishermen their thoughts,  the answers will vary from “never” to “situation” to “always”, and the discussions on the subject sound like presidential debates. Let us delve into the “situation”. Why? Because this is the one I adhere to, and I am going to go over the thought process, baits, and what to look for.   

If you were to ask most anglers what their favorite childhood memory was, I bet eight out of ten would tell you about fishing with a parent or grandparent. So how do you create these memories for your kids and give them a lifelong love of the sport? Here are a few tips to help make their time with you on the water experiences they will remember.

When most people hear “Float n' Fly,” they think smallmouth - and it makes sense. The Float n' Fly was developed by Charlie and Eddie Nuckols in eastern Tennessee. This technique was aimed at targeting suspended smallmouth and spotted bass when the water temps started creeping into the low 40's. It works because bait fish struggle to stay alive at these temperatures. What a lot of folks don't know is this technique also works well for big largemouth.
